Mixed Martial Arts CLE Panel
TITLE: The Fight for Fair Treatment in Mixed Martial Arts
Speakers: Timothy D. Cedrone, Esq.
Paul Haberman, Esq.
David N. Weinraub, Esq.
Justin E. Klein, Esq.
There are currently two areas of heated discussion in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts: the fair treatment of fighters and First Amendment protection for the exhibition of sporting events.
The topic of fair treatment focuses on the relationship between labor law and how fighters are treated in their working environment. This includes such issues as how fighters are paid, medical treatment, career opportunities, and other important employment issues. Also to be discussed are the benefits and detriments of unionization of fighters and the opportunities and obstacles to achieving such.
Another area of concern is First Amendment issues in regards to hosting Mixed Martial Arts contests, particularly in New York. This topic will center around the recent ban on such contests is the State of New York, the constitutionality of such action, and proposed remedies.
Following the short presentations by the speakers there will be a question-and-answer/discussion segment where the audience can participate. This will also provide a chance for the speakers to interact and share their individual perspectives on these matters.
