The New Jersey State Bar Association’s (NJSBA’s) General Council will meet on Friday, Oct. 16 at the Law Center, New Brunswick. Pursuant to NJSBA bylaws, the General Council will elect a member to a two-year term on the NJSBA’s Nominating Committee. The committee is responsible for nominating candidates to serve as officers and trustees of the association, and as American Bar Association (ABA) delegates and members of the Nominating Committee.
Any member of the NJSBA’s General Council may become a candidate for a Nominating Committee seat by filing a petition signed by no fewer than 10 members of the General Council (as designated in the association’s bylaws, Article VI, paragraph 1). Nominees from Essex County are not eligible, pursuant to Article IV, paragraph 1 (i) of the association’s bylaws, which prohibits more than one of the two members elected to the Nominating Committee by the General Council to be from the same county.
To obtain a petition form, please call the NJSBA at 732-937-7514, or email Christina Pateman at [email protected]. Completed petitions must be submitted to Angela C. Scheck, the NJSBA executive director, by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11.
Membership in the General Council is governed by Article VI of the NJSBA bylaws and is limited to: NJSBA and New Jersey State Bar Foundation officers; current and past NJSBA trustees; past association presidents; and current committee chairs, section and division officers and designated delegates. Members also include county and certain specialty bar association officers and designated delegates, and NJSBA delegates to the ABA.
