NEW BRUNSWICK - The New Jersey State Bar Association President issued a statement about today’s ruling in State v. Dangcil.
The NJSBA is pleased the decision reflects the Association’s recommendation to collect demographic information about potential jurors.
NJSBA President Domenick Carmagnola: “The New Jersey State Bar Association believes in the foundational constitutional right to a fair and impartial jury, with a process that allows for a jury pool drawn from a fair cross-section of the community. Especially with the challenges presented by the public health pandemic, the NJSBA believes increased transparency in the selection process is critical to ensure these rights are fully protected. We are pleased today’s decision in State v. Dangcil
reflects the Association’s earlier recommendations to begin collecting demographic information about potential jurors to guard against the risk of unconstitutional jury selection and underrepresentative juries.”
