New Brunswick, NJ - New Jersey State Bar Association President Ralph J. Lamparello will receive the Congressman Peter W. Rodino Humanitarian Achievement Award for his efforts to advance the cause of justice.
The award, from the Seton Hall School of Law Peter W. Rodino Jr. Society, recognizes exceptional statesmanship and the virtues of excellence and compassion in the pursuit of justice. In addition to Lamparello, Deborah Gabry will receive the Excellence in Achievement Award at the Tuesday event, which will be held at the Newark Club in Newark.
“The Congressman Peter W. Rodino Humanitarian Achievement Award honors those who use the instrument of the law to be givers of hope,” said Seton Hall Law Professor Paula Franzese. “As a statesman, practitioner and leader, Ralph Lamparello has advanced the cause of justice and exalted the nobler virtues of the legal profession. Like Congressman Rodino himself, he has been a champion of the underdog and a voice for the disaffected. As NJSBA president, Ralph has led with generosity and the courage of his convictions. He is a force for the good and an immense credit to our craft.”
Lamparello said he was humbled to be named this year’s award recipient.
“I am deeply honored by this recognition. Congressman Rodino, a son of Newark and war hero, was a role model for me in the legal profession. He conducted himself with dignity and had a fundamental sense of fairness in everything he did. Yet, he was also tenacious and never backed down from a fight,” Lamparello said. “He had deep reserves of energy and passion for the issues that mattered to him and his constituents. That is the epitome of everything a good lawyer, a good person, should aim for. I strive to conduct myself with those same qualities.”
