ust didn’t connect with you?
- Have you ever felt bested, or out talked, by an adversary?
- Do you ever feel like you could go much farther/get better
results if you could just be a little more persuasive?
- Ever wish you could make opening and closing statements like the
ones on TV and in the movies?
Don’t worry – lots of great attorneys have felt the same way, and this program is for you. It’s Showtime! Don’t miss this rare opportunity to spend the morning picking up all of the skills you need with Maria Riboli (a professional actress, director, acting coach, and voice-over artist) and two highly-experienced trial Judges who, during their tenure, have seen many truly great (as well as many not-so-great) presentations of trial counsel, as they present an innovative and fun workshop designed to help you to improve your persona in the courtroom.
Actors turn to Maria Riboli when they need help landing an important role or fine tuning their ability to communicate as a particular character. Now it’s your turn. Maria takes actors of all kinds through proven exercises that help them harness their voice and bring across a message that is equally memorable, confident and believable. Maria has helped many actors to achieve the heights of success, and now brings those skills to us to help you improve your performance in the courtroom - whether in front of a judge, a jury, or with an adversary or client. You will learn how to use your voice confidently and in a way that will highlight important aspects of your case – all while adding credibility. You will also learn several exercises to help you stay calm in stressful situations so that you can keep your mind sharp and maximize your recall abilities on direct, cross, or when arguing a motion. Finally, Maria will use acting exercises, scenes and monologues from movies and plays to help you perform at your very best - and will help you to explore a wide range of highly-effective communication techniques, including body language, empathy, passion, sense of humor and listening.
Maria will be joined by Judges Costello and Ferencz (ret), who will set the framework of the exercises with an outline and explanation of courtroom procedures and practice. The Judges will use the practical guidelines of a trial, jury selection, opening, examination and summations, to relate Maria’s strategies to the work of an active trial attorney, and will share a judge’s perspective of what attorneys can do to be believable and obtain the best possible result. You will also, time permitting, be given the opportunity to practice what you have learned at the end of the presentation using either a civil or criminal case outline. With the aid of the court, the class, and the acting studio, you’ll get feedback on how you came across - and what you can do to be more effective and believable. Learn what successful actors know about exuding confidence and capability as Maria and two experienced Superior Court Judges help you to focus on your strengths, overcome your weaknesses, and become a better communicator and a stronger lawyer. You will walk away feeling more confident in yourself …and with easy to use, practical techniques that you will be able to immediately implement in your work and everyday life.
